That broad sheet would be preserved, matted and hanging on my wall in a place of prominence,,, Big time!
great to have older publications to check out - Pure Hell still out there, with one in current race form & one early - helps that publications like Hot Rod DeLuxe have access to old stuff that is put back in print
Early Double Ay Fuel Altereds were beasts. Rarely went straight, horizontally or vertically. You had to have really big ones to drive one of those.
Always a Fan, the thing was a giant killer! Did you notice the bottom ad about the new self starting system? Poor Flag Man.
Me and a good friend were sitting in the stands of a little dragstrip in the Midwest about 10 years ago. Up rolls Pure Hell for an exhibition pass. We stand and chear like crazy. People looked at us like we were drunkin fools. He makes a pass. The rest of the people in the crowded bleachers then stands to there feet and chears like crazy. You either have seen him run or you haven't.
Rich is a long-time family friend ... and one of my heroes. I thoroughly enjoyed Thom Taylor's interview of Guasco at last month's GNRS ... classic Rich Guasco story telling ... check it out: https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=822505644764267
The one and only time I went to Bakersfield Kackel Fest. I saw Rich, he was selling tin wall hangers with Pure Hell on them. We talked about the night at the little Midwest dragstrip. He asks if I want to buy a tin wall hanger, I said no. I wanted one with his purple roadster on it.
I had Rich sign this when he was honored as the Grand Marshal at the CHRR in 1999. Pure Hell has been a favorite of mine since the ‘60’s.
Larry Huff could man handle the new car Rich built about 25 years ago. I think that's him enveloped in flames.
What a "car!" It was at my fabricator's [home] shop in Sebastopol, Ca. while my Willys was being worked on. Just sitting in it was intimidating! Mick
Got to see him run a few years ago at Fomosa during the reunion. don't think it ever made a full power full track run. He was at Laguna for the nitro revival and i got to meet him personally. Nice guy. On a AA/FA side note, there was an altered, at the same meet, that hit the wall, flipped onto the drivers side and spun through the traps at 140. If that wasn’t Impressive enough, the driver climbs out, stands on the car and waves to the fans. !
