Bill Burke was the long time ad sales guy for HOT ROD magazine. Lunch with Bill tended to be longer than an hour and entertaining.
I met Bill at Speedweek in 1998.... We talked for maybe 5 minutes on the starting line. Didn't actually hit me WHO he was until that night at the hotel. Duh.....
All depends on how the original agreement was written up (or if there was even one) at the time - loan, "permanent loan", outright gift (possibly for tax purposes), etc. Even with written agreements in the past, museums of all types have been known to sell off individual exhibits they deem no longer needed at the time to finance ongoing expenses or at final closing. The legal suits get involved and we all know how many roads those trips can wind up taking. Bottom line - donor beware! Ed
