Jive-Bomber submitted a new blog post: The Forgotten Fastbacks... Continue reading the Original Blog Post
Similar ^^^ Ive forgotten about mine for 30 years now. Things will change in one month and FINALLY it will get attention.
It wasn't a totally new idea... And we can't forget the Clipper "Club Sedan" (42)... All from a google search. I'm a fan, just thought I'd show some early thinking along with this. FWIW, and we all know I'm a Packard guy, I'd take the Pierce Arrow "Silver Arrow" over any of em. As an aside there was a much more tame version as a production car a year later, and with their Studebaker connection there was one on those too. I think it was 34. Kool topic. When it came back most were beyond "our world" but there's a few.
I don't know...I like Hudsons but I think this kind of misses the mark. Sort of like they jumped on the bandwagon a little too late.
The list can start and end right here as far as I'm concerned. Sam Barris 50 Buick. IMHO the best car Sam ever chopped. I had a stock one back in the 70's and saw George Barris at a show one time. He spent 45 minutes just talking to me about what Sam did to that car.
Great one @Torchie Recently (re)restored by Kurt McCormick and Manns Restorations. https://www.customcarchronicle.com/forums/topic/the-sam-barris-1950-buick-freshened/
Indeed Sancho. Followed along on that restoration with many others over on the CCC. One of my biggest Automotive regrets was not buying a totally untouched. Mint condition,1949 Cadillac fastback. It was 1973 and I was in HS. One of my moms old school mates was a car guy and he found it. Owned by a life long Caddy dealership Mechanic . It had 5000 original miles. I couldn't come up with the $500 for my half of the car..... Torchie
Hello, My dad's second car was a 41 Buick Sedanette Fastback. It was his first, real family car that transported the whole family from Tulelake, CA down to Long Beach in 1946. He was proud of that sedanette. We called it the shark as the car looked like one with the fastback. My dad or mom told me of a story that I seem to remember in 1946, when I was two years old. He drove the family down the middle of California, via Highway 395 down into Long Beach. Along the way, we stopped for some take out hamburgers and fries for everyone. My dad had his in the Buick's front seat, while he went into the gas station store to pay for other types of traveling food. I crawled over the front seatback to see what was making that fabulous smell. It was a cheeseburger and fries. I munched down that cheeseburger, but could not eat the fries. So, when my mom and dad came back to the car, I was calmly sitting in the back seat with some ketchup on my shirt. They were flabbergasted that the cheeseburger was missing, but not the fries. Finally, they asked me what happened...I just shook my head that I did not know anything... ! But, eventually, they figured it out, had a big laugh and went to get my dad another cheeseburger to last until the next stop somewhere in the middle of California. I slept for most of the ride. That started my friendship with the Buick Sedanette Fastback from 1946 to 49, when my dad bought a huge 49 Buick 4 door Roadmaster for the growing family. The two boys were getting taller. Jnaki We lived in a small trailer in a trailer park built for WW2 aircraft industry workers. My mom told me that it was the only place we could rent at the time. There were other relatives and families from the old Terminal Island and San Pedro area. So starts our Buick history until 1984.
This is a body style that I have lusted after for a long time now. A number of years ago I had a '50 Chevy Fleetline but I really love the larger and more elegant '49 Buick and Cadillac Sedanettes the best. The '49 Olds would be next in line for me. Someday I hope to have one but I am running out of somedays so I will probably have to lust after them from afar...
The first family car I can remember was an early 50's fastback. I don't know what brand it was. The only memory I have of that car was my disappointment at not being able to stick my head out the rear window.
Looks just like the one that I had in the 70's. Right down to the color. Mine did not have a radio though, so no antenna. Stock straight 8 with a Dynaslow......Rode like you were sitting on a cloud.
Love this 50 Olds...years ago I sold a 46 Buick Sedanette to purchase a 46 Chevy business coupe, one of many regrets.
Absolutely right! I wrote this too quickly and left out Buick! And listed Hudson instead of Packard-- Just fixed both those mistakes!
There has been a really nice 51 Bel Air 2 door fastback sitting on a used car lot along Hwy 81 in Hebron Nebraska for the last year. Can't figure out why it's never found a new owner
