@Jive-Bomber Jay - Great videos! ... Thanks for sharing! Here's a decent article (from the February 25th 1957 issue of Sports Illustrated) about the '57 Daytona Speed Week event:
As a MOPAR fan, I'd be remiss not to point out that ... A '57 Chrysler 300 C Coupe: ... ran the fastest MPH in the Stock Passenger Cars (Flying Mile) category: ... and the fastest MPH in the Stock Passenger Cars (Standing Mile Acceleration) category: HOT ROD Magazine's "SUDDENLY" '57 Plymouth: ... ran the fastest MPH in the Experimental Cars (Two-Way Flying Mile Average) category:
Yeah I thought the same thing as soon as I saw the post heading. Pretty funny how a manufacturer can "spin" something in their favor. Chrysler owned all those records down there for years.
..........AND A 57 Pontiac won the 57 Datona 500 when the leading chevy blew the engine close to the end of the race. Part of the reason I built a 57 Pontiac motor for my 34 ford coupe. love those old Poncho engines!
Love that power plant. Good choice. One little caveat....the first Daytona 500 was in 1959. 1957 was still the 160 mile beach/road event. A huge first time accomplishment for Pontiac nonetheless and a proud moment for the Poncho faithful. Enjoy the hell out of that 34 with Poncho power.
Very cool Did anyone else catch the narrator/announcer say, ..he broke the "sand-barrier" ?? Now I want a 1957 Pontiac 2 Dr sedan, painted white n red, just like the one in the film. Wow 140mph!! Watched some film on the 1927 Daytona Speed trials. Simply amazing how much history is only about an hour away from here. JT
Finally a little love for 57 Pontiacs! This my 57. 347 tripower, but soon to be 389 stroked to 453, backed by a B&M hydro.
