Ryan submitted a new blog post: The Scott 97 Fuel Injection Prototype Continue reading the Original Blog Post
About 15 years ago, I was at a vintage dirt race with my modified. There was a guy there with a Crosley powered three-quarter midget with a setup that looked quite a bit like this unit. He couldn't get it to run for shit; all full throttle or it killed. Quite frankly, given the appearance of the guy and his car (quite shoddy), I can't make any judgments about the utility of one of these.
There was a fella here on the HAMB a few years back that took a box of them and made 3 good ones and ran' em. The Scoot injectors are a masterpiece in engineering. Good read my friend.
Good read Ryan, and cool score. I was just reading that first article on those injectors last week while shuffling through my back issues.
I found a few over the years and as owner of Linder Fuel Injection in Indy , i built them up and used two ( one on each end with a stromberg in the middle thinking it would be perfect for our Bonneville flathead truck. No amount of dyno or road testing would ever make these even begin to work. They use a barrel valve to roll in additional fuel much like a hilborn injection unit. After some serious testing and flowing we finally took it off the truck and ran a four barrel at Bonneville that year. Good news is that after showing them off at a couple swap meets etc they were sold for a good price and someone somewhere has them hanging on a display wall . A very neat prototype piece at the best . Would like to read where someone actually got them running and driving really good .....
Great article Ryan, Mel Scott was my Uncle, a great pioneer of the early Hot Rodding era. I still have a large collection of his Injectors from Super Slots to the 97's in this article even a couple stack injection sets he built on top of early Chevrolet Rodchester fuel injection manifolds . The last set of the 97's he did for me in the late 80's. They are set up for our 4-port Riley Deuce Roadster and hope to get going on this project next year. Here is an album link to some of the items described above. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/media/albums/scott-injection.45036/ Once again thanks for the article, he would have enjoyed your site. --- Dean Scott
