History 10 years a HAMBer, Some Early 50s MOTORAMA Colour slides

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Jimmy B, May 4, 2014.

  1. So today marks a decade since I joined the HAMB, I was member number 2572. I have been on here since I was 21, hard to believe. Most things Hot Rod related that I have experienced in the last decade has happened largely due to being a member of the HAMB, also much of what I have learnt has been because of the HAMB. So as a thank you I am posting these photos plus I will start 1 or 2 other threads of material I have held off posting.

So now to the photos, at the end of last year a bunch of slides were listed on ebay, I narrowly missed photos of Johnny Zaro '41 Ford convert, Marcia Campbell's A RPU and Kenny Smith AV8. Rikster did research and found them to be doubles from the Walter Wyss collection (A Swiss automotive designer that spent the 1940s and 50s in the US). The following 14 are what I was able to purchase, they range from 1950-'54, enjoy.

Johnny Parsons' '50 Indy 500 winner, note damage to the chin of track nose.

Many of the photos you have shared (not just these ones) have become inspiration for myself and I'm sure many others here.

  21. @Jimmy B -

I hope you don't mind ... but I had trouble seeing the photo of the "Denny Larson / Bob Sorrell Special" (i.e., the rear view of the Sorrell SR-100 roadster with gull-wing hardtop) ... so I mucked with the brightness a bit:

    bob-sorrell-sports-car.jpg

Here's a few J.R. Eyerman color pics of the same car at Bonneville in 1954:

Larson ~ Sorrell 101 Spcl with hardop @ \'54 Bonneville (by JR Eyerman) (1).jpg Larson ~ Sorrell 101 Spcl with hardop @ \'54 Bonneville (by JR Eyerman) (2).jpg Larson ~ Sorrell 101 Spcl with hardop @ \'54 Bonneville (by JR Eyerman) (3).jpg

... and a couple of B&W images (from @G. Hacker's "Forgotten Fiberglass" website) of the car at the same Motorama show:

When I saw your pic of the Wynns Friction Proofing I thought this would be acceptable to post on your thread. I hope I'm not offending anyone. I found this sticker on a 1947 Ford glove box door in an old salvage yard.
