Projects ‘30 coupe, heavy chop and fendered

It looks really cool! It looks good with the hood but it is a Sin to cover up the Flatty.

Just another quick update (something I’m not very good at keeping up with) my daughter and I sewed up a seat, I made a base out of the A’s seat sides and welded a bottom and back to them. Cut out wooden platforms glued some foam and the “presewn” diamond pleats to them. We sewed up the smooth flat vinyl to the pleated vinyl.

 

Then I made panels for the roof, quarters, back area and today will finish up the doors and kick panels.

 

....also I’m a California boy living in the PNW, and I get cold easily, so I wanted a heater that didn’t look out of place and was small. I had a broken gas fired Southwind one. I gutted out the internals, put in a 12 volt cooling fan/motor, and came across a small aluminum 4”x6” radiator used for computer cooling. Put a switch where the original knob was, carefully drilled out the knob and epoxied it to the switch handle. Combined everything made a shroud inside for the fan to blow thru that small radiator and it works!! The rad has 7/16” outlets and I used some fittings to connect it to the 5/8” heater hoses. Not a ton of heat, but WAY more than one of those heaters mounted to the exhaust manifold on a 4 cylinder!?!!

No, didn’t think about it when I was building it. It’s just a 12 volt motor/fan mounted in the same spot the 6volt one was, then the brace that held al the gas heater parts is where I mounted that computer radiator. Then I bent a 6” piece of tin and pop riveted it to the back to form a shroud around the fan. Then I screwed it all together. Wherever there were some gaps I put in some RTV/caulk to seal it up. The 3 way switch came with the fan, and it is just mounted where the original Southwind pull knob was.

Dusted of my Coats 2020 and got my Radirs installed. Filled up the fender well nicely. I have a T spring with only a couple of leafs to drop it down, but I think I’ll put a couple back in for some tire clearance.

 

Also other than the tires, I’ve been bodyworking the chop on the coupe, but the cold weather has prevented me from doing any lately, so I’ve been tinkering with my Sedan. I did a 4” rear to 5” front chop, 4” channel in front, with 1” in back. Raised the rear crossmember up 3”, moved the body forward 2” and have a bellybutton SBC with 6 - 2’s.

We are in So Cal and it gets COLD, so we went with $50.00 seat heaters off The Bay, place under the seat covers plug in and warm butt and back, luxury in a roadster

Was having some fun and “heard/felt” a thud. I knew the rearend was weak, but figured it would hold up a little bit longer than it did. Broke 2 teeth on the pinion gear, and destroyed all the spider gears. Oh well, I have another rearend and I’ll be more careful.

 

Any way to "pull in" those rear wheels?

 

Re-assembled the rear end last weekend from the carnage of my burnout and installed it this weekend. Drove it around and all seems to be good. Had to raise the spring a little as the fenders kept bottoming out on the slicks. Also put the 16” wheels on the front.

 

Been driving the T-Bucket daily to work too.

 

Love your cool coupe, and the chop is spot on! What I really love is it doesn't have another darn '32 Grille on a '30 Ford! Seems like well over half of them I see have had a '32 grille used, and I'm really over seeing another.
I used the same black diamond material to do my interior on my '39 too. I also stripped my seats and made inserts for the buckets, and sewed them in with the same material to match is up.

 

Finally got the bodywork done on the chop, and ran into some issues with the previous owners metal insert install. Did the best I could , but it was/is really bad. But, it’s a HotRod so it’ll have to do. I may just eventually glue a padded canvas insert onto it to make it look better, as I’m not too keen on cutting it out to redo it.

 

Also changed out the rusty chrome rims to stockers, minor painting, some trim rings, & spider caps.

 

Kept going back and forth between Kingbees and the Model A lights... Decided on the original headlights on a dropped bar.
