I headed to my friend Scott's shop on Saturday to see how my 265 was coming along and he had his '32 Plymouth Coupe out side. This car is a joint ownership between him and his dad "The Cheese". They were told that the car was in Rod & Custom Magazine in 1955 or 1956. They were also told that the car originally had a flathead and was running around New England area during the late 50's early 60's. I decided that I needed to take some pics of the car so we can find more about it's history. About a month ago I was flipping through my Rod & Custom 50 year book that the Rodder's Journal put out and I think I stumbled upon on the car. Here is the small picture and caption as found in the R&C book.... The car now is running a late 50's Chevy 283 motor and has some noticeable differences then what we see in the image above. All of the differences are small and the similarities definitely cover the "big" modifications that were done back in the mid 50's. So I actually am pretty confident that this is the actual Jeweler's Jewel!!!! Here are some pics that took last Saturday... Rear window seems to be the same as the October '55 car! I am hoping that we can find a bit more about the history and it's original version. If someone could scan the original article in the 1955 October issue of Rod & Custom that would be great! Obviously the engine and tire/cap combo is different as well as the nerf bars that replaced the '32 Ford bumpers that it originally had. I am not sure what the original interior looked like but it now has repopped white faced SW's in there now. Also if you have reason to believe that this is not the Jeweler's Jewel then I would like to hear that too! Thanks,JJ
Yeah I guess it could be. The '47 (or '49) Plymouth bumper was like the fake version of the '37 Desoto I think. Can't be for certain though.
Yeah, it's definitely not one of those colors that you would ever paint "your" car but seeing this one makes me wonder why yellow hasn't been used in better ways through out the years.
I found the October '55 issue and bought it last night. It'll be nice to have a copy of the feature to have with the car.
I got the old R&C that this car was in. It always stood out to me, I always thought about doing a drawing of it. I always liked how the tailights mimicked the shape of the back window, thats some good fifties styling. Mean looking car. Thanks Jeffery
It was at Good Guys this past year Cory. Did you catch it? Let me know if you come into the Mooresville area and you want to take a better look at it! Oh and you really should do a drawing of it! Your stuff is awesome.
I'm only going to bump this once and then I'll let it die. Just want to give those who missed it a chance to check it out before is fades into oblivion.
