The Jalopy Journal
I think I figured it out finally! There was an extra, but apparently not needed wire on the starter solenoid. I removed that and VIOLA! Car...
Ok, so I fooled around and swapped some wires and it starts and runs now. But weirdly it starts by turning the key to the “on” position. And when...
What can we help with? I did the swap on my Fairlane, and the bulbs are obviously much brighter than stock ones, but I cannot get the damn things...
Those rubber/steel core gaskets are the truth! I’ve had a set on the 302 in my Fairlane since I’ve had the car which is going on 13 years now....
i think you can just go pull one from a pick n pull for $50-$100, if my memory recalls correctly. ***EDIT*** This comment was incredibly late. I...
What a gorgeous ride! Man that color really demands attention. And way to stick with the build!
@Johnny Gee No sir, all of the wiring is about as fresh and clean as it can be. I’ve tried to be sure that if anything looks unkempt I...
@Johnny Gee all good my man, I appreciate all of the help from everyone! I just verified, with the key on, I have power going to the distributor,...
@AngleDrive aint that the damned truth!
Just curious why this would all just start happening now, however.
Ok! Got ya. So yes, the dizzy is wired to the ignition switch
The distributor wiring hasn’t changed since I put it in, so I would be shocked if that was the issue.
This is the way I have it wired…

Thanks guys! I’ll give that a shot in the morning!
But! If I keep the key turned, and don’t let go it stays running, so I’m thinking somewhere I got the power wire to my distributor mixed up and...
Not at all. It’s making me crazy!
So….. very….. close…… ugh! It starts and runs beautifully for about 3 seconds then immediately dies. Like no power to the distributor. Am I...
I ended up dropping the tube stiffener that was installed just forward of the transmission, and that did the trick!
@deathrowdave beers are on me if you ever come through Memphis! Your guidance saved the day! I dropped that stiffener and lo-and-behold, the...
This is what I tried first, the problem is, I don't have enough room to even move the starter far enough forward to be able to tilt the drive...
I will absolutely be doing this, thanks for the suggestion!!
ha, unfortunately that’s where I’m afraid this is taking me… I think my best bet is to start with the easiest stuff first and then go on to harder...
That makes sense. I have the header unbolted from the head. But it still doesn’t give me enough clearance. What would I be looking for in terms of...
Like the title says, 1962 Ford Fairlane starter removal. How? Am I doing something wrong? It’s like they built the car around the damn starter! I...

It's probably out of timing. Have you checked that yet, clean properly gapped plugs? Does it even try to fire? Any sputter or sign of life at...
