Try putting the fuel pump suction side hose into a can of gas near the front of the engine. You may need a fuel pressure regulator for those carbs
I have swapped a starter from a 164 tooth c-4 to the aod trans when I swapped. It works fine. I don't if this helps at all.
I was definitely underwhelmed the contestants this year. The quality was great, but I didn't care for the overall look of many of them.
