The Jalopy Journal
Well, haven't posted in a loooong time, lots of change. Frame is step notched, Ford 8.8 diff installed, bed floor removed for clearance, flipped...
Does anyone know any solutions to wheels rubbing inside the fenders when turning because of lowering? Narrower axle?
Quite positive the dropped axle is what I want for this truck, just finishing up the rear of the truck and then moving on to the front.
I got the last 8.8 in my town from a scrap yard for 400$ with 3:55 gears, compared to other prices I've seen it's a little much but quite happy...
Well guys, lots of work got done since the last time I posted. The 8.8 rear end is sandblasted, primed and painted, new leafs from Eaton Detroit...
Well, it's been a while since I've posted anything, havent been able to do much without parts! Still waiting on springs but finally found a little...
For anyone needing springs for a project www.eatondetroitspring.com is the place to go! I couldn't have had it easier. They offer springs for...
Theres only about 1/4-1/2" of space between the caliper and rim
with this brake setup ill have to run at least 17" wheels in the rear. Perches will be pretty close to the backing plates but will fit just fine.
only a bit of work done lately, cant do much more without a big order of parts that i need (leaf springs, spring perches, shocks, tires) also need...
Im not sure how much drop ill need in the front to get a nice stance out of it since the rear had 30" farm tires haha ill probably use a drop axle...
doing the axle flip was a thought at first but id need to notch the frame and i dont want to get quite into that. Wish i could slam it right to...
well, i picked up an 8.8 today at a local scrapyard. I didnt have a chance to messure it out there but i assumed that it was near 59.5" The rear...
The scarebird kit is actually the kit i will be getting for the front, was looking at the rusty hope kit for a while but then found that kit. Im...
After a lot of research i found that the explorer 8.8 is 59.5" wide which is pretty damn close to what i need. If i can find one for a good price...
After, easily done with a torch, vice grips, C clamps and a piece of angle iron
Before
The new shock mount painted and bolted with stainless nuts and bolts.
Well, the end of another day. Early night working on Ole Red, straightened out a couple bent spots on the frame and bolted in the new shock mount...
Stamped X on the housing.
All i plan on doing with this truck is driving it once or twice a week 3-4 months out of the year because the rest is too cold and snowy up here....
ill have to look into that, prices are we cheaper and parts are available for it and id get the bonus of disk brakes, thanks for pointing that out...
That info is extremely useful. I just looked online for '65-70 8.75 complete diffs and i cant find any for under 2000$ which is way out of my...
i think i will stick to the drums in the back but get a disk kit for the front. On the rear i plan on replacing all the brake parts with new ones...
Both axles dont have much thread left so I will either bring them in to get redone or attempt doing it myself with a dye
Clean axles and bearings. Bearings are still good, all they need is to be repacked once ready
Brake assembly is all held together by the backing plate which bolts onto the diff with 5bolts
1950's Chrystler hub puller. Uses 3 legs to bolt to the wheel stud/bolts and pushes on the axle to pull the hub
today I borrowed a 1950's chrystler hub puller to get the brake drums off the rear axle. The drums on the rear dont simply slide on and off, they...
Thanks Don, i am planning on keeping the solid axle but im not too sure how sid does his work, do i send my axle in and he drops it?
