I've done the 80's caravan middle seat in a 29 A and looked perfect, had to build risers for it
If its all stock, sounds like linkage to clutch fork. Mine has slipped before and some thing happened.

I bought a 3/4 ton axle by axle before not knowing and the kingpins were different, everything else worked....swapped them out and all good

the Mazda seat is a perfect fit, used that and a back seat out early 90's caravan. New tuck and roll interior and it flows well
I've done the transmission swap on a lot of 235 engines using T5's with the shorter tail shaft. Also have the bell housings that the T5's mount up...
looks like you found a solid one eric, can't beat that traditional styling
