if the shoe fits---get he center carb right it does not require a "special carb" any similar two barrel will work ---tune it as you would any car...

just finished a 4 by 12---pretty much what jlaird said---it is never to late to hammer and dolly ...
jegs ---but unless you were running the short rods and are changing to the 5.7 and using the same piston you won't have much compression...

292 was a popular overbore for a 283 as well a displacement for a 6 cyl thus the confusion---if the flywheel and crank bolt patterns are the same...
factory put bacolite spacers between carb and manifold in the sixties for just that reason...
i have a 6 inch rod 355 that is the best performing street motor i have owned---J&E pistons,Summit H beam rods ,510 solid roller...
let me restate for the purpose of enhanced understanding "keep it running" unless it becomes a problem...
if it is not much of a leak leave it alone---if it is too much try the lazy way it usually works...
