With the rod running straight to the transmission,when the engine/trans rocks from a bump or acceleration it is forcing the shift arm to downshift.

After the car sits for a while. Fluid will drain back out of the Converter. I think you are over filling it a bit.
You could use a Heat Gun or a Bic Lighter,but would be better not using it as others have said.
