The Jalopy Journal
Guess who was right? Something about sticking with stock stuff. Put the old coil, cleaned old points, and put resistor in and she started in one...
[MEDIA] No progress yet. It appears these distributors get a little "sticky" in the block over the years. Lot of meat on that distributor shaft...
I am on #1.
Yes, I’m trying to avoid swapping, Truck64. Can anyone explain what would cause my spark to be erratic? I can reach my timing light into the cab...
About to try that. Getting fed up with it.
Light is just a basic old Craftsman. No timing adjustment dial or anything. Just a straight up induction light with wire clip and two battery...
Why would my timing light give off erratic, non consistent flashes at cranking?
That is the Pertronix wire. Red goes to + on the coil, the Black goes to - on the coil.
Ok, I was able to get my timing light working (which really makes life easier); however, this motor doesn't have a stock crank pulley or a timing...
Now you tell me. Bell is ringing like someone just fired off a .45 next to my ear. How do I prevent that when testing next time?...
This system was converted to 12 volt with a GM alternator, but it still has the big boy 6V starter, which I heard is not an issue, but maybe it is...
Thanks guys. Wondering if the problem is in the main battery wires. I'll ditch the I term. I didn't think I would be using it. Ignition switch...
It also backfired when I keyed off, if that has something that might shine some light.
Key on I have 12.7 at the + on the coil, but nothing on - side. Cranking it goes down to 10.4 at + on coil, but still nothing on - side.
I ohm'd out the resistance on the coil primary and secondary and that checked out. Pertronix bench test is good too. I think it is my wiring...
Yeah, my light is broken, but I checked by hand. Nada.
Cleaning solenoid base now. Ground may be suspect.
Only told it ran before, but that was sometime ago. With points, different electrical wiring, and fuel tanks. 95% sure it is a spark issue.
I am not getting spark but on one attempted start it did backfire out the exhaust which leads me to believe I have some sort of fire (spark). I am...
What am I doing wrong on his old little Willy four banger? This one has me stumped. The key is just a new universal switch (tested and good). The...
Interesting on the low reading with the glycerin gauge. I took it out of the system. Maybe the carb is just running lean and this cheap liquid...
Any thoughts?
Was way off on tank to pump length. Almost 7 feet. I’m wondering if I need a larger feed. It is 3/8” line right now. Filter looks good.
Mechanical pump on the motor. Tank to pump line is maybe 3 feet. Not far. Filter right out and after tank.
Tank was dipped, so I'm sure it is clean. The pickup sock filter was gone, so I did run without, although I wouldn't think this would affect the...
Fighting a warm fuel pressure problem on my rig that I can't seem to figure out what's going on. Holley 4 barrel, mechanical pump, phenolic...
Thanks to all the volunteers, organizers, and workers at the show. I know what hard work and dedication goes into making this event go down. I...
Neighbor told me a good one yesterday. "You can't make chicken soup with chicken shit."
I thought I'd throw this out there. Moving out of my small shop in Lake Villa, IL at the end of May if any HAMBers are looking for a space. There...
