I save empty cereal boxes. They have a slick side that's perfect. I also use them for making patterns when I need to cut some metal.
Check to make sure the caliper slide is lubricated.

I save the cut off tip from the caulking tube and insert it back into the end to make a perfect seal. It keeps the caulk from drying out....
