Have close look at your float level it can effect how the idle works and then clean the idle jets inside the carby they have very small holes...
Matt to help you we need a bit more info just what strombergs are you tuning
81s are pretty much plug and play 97s or 48s each have their own...
I have used a few of Jims (Bubba) distributors they are 1st class come with the advance reset correct and little improvements
You do not need special valves from 1 of A model vendors just work out the sizes and length shape weight you want and go through some catalogs...
