The Jalopy Journal
Great to see this grand ol' thread resurrected. Nice ride, Steve. You did an excellent job on that truck. -b
Back in the 80's, my dad needed to replace the rotted out muffler on his '74 Chevy 1/2 ton truck (250 inline six). The local auto parts store had...
Pardon me for resurrecting an old thread, but does anyone know the ratios of a Muncie 3-speed?
Of course. That's cool that it didn't use a chain. The gear arrangement kinda sounds like a Detroit.
Something tells me this has to do with counting links, but I'll ask anyway.......What was it that you weren't doing when trying to time the pump?
You might want to think twice about that. The shop manager at the dealership my dad worked at had a new truck. short & wide but fitted wih 3.07...
My dad worked for a GMC dealership too. '65-'66. Then we moved. Fleming Motors in Salina Kansas. That building is no longer a GMC dealership, but...
Thank you finn. I was starting to feel like the 2000 year old man.
...btw, that link changed years ago....http://6066gmcguy.com/
Same thing that happened to the 379. They stopped making them in the 70's. ;)
When you've got 1500 lbs. or more stacked in the bed at a height double that of the cab and all you've got to stop with are 4 unassisted drums, 45...
Actually, the 5.7L Olds diesel wasn't that bad of an engine. It mostly suffered from an uneducated public. In the days of the Olds diesel, the...
There's a series of youtube videos where a guy mod's his 305 intake manifold to fit a 4-bbl carb. [MEDIA] [MEDIA] [MEDIA] ...and the revised...
...and now you know why all the big trucks use diesel engines. =) The 637 was the replacement for the 702, after it was discontinued...
If you did, you had carb problems AND a lead foot! Back in the 80's, I had a 1965 GMC pickup. 6 lug wheels, big rear window, long and wide. Red...
I bet, seat-of-the-pants, you'd probably be hard pressed to tell the difference between a 289 and a 302, with both engines being in the same...
Apologies if resurrecting an old thread angers anyone, I just ran the lift specs, with an extra .010 added to the lobes and it gives a significant...
413 was the original displacement for the RB block. 383, 413, 426, 440.
Was gonna give you some specs on that 707 but my Motor's Manual only covers 1936 to 1946. 477 is the biggest GMC engine they list for that time....
You forgot about the GA series Ford engines from WWII. V8 version of a R-R V-1650, it displaced 1100 cubes and made 500 HP. ...getting back to the...
...I'm sorry, was I not supposed to do that?
The only difference between a "marine" engine and an "automotive" engine are two plastic "clips" or "shields". One mounts on the battery positive...
Wide meats on front driver rims...nice touch.
I had a '65 big window long bed with the granny 4-speed and the "E" motor for a short time in the late 80's. Good ol' rig. Used to belong to an...
Sweet rides, FrankenRodz and Hot Rod Punk. =)
I realize this is an old thread and the quoted posting was truthful at the time it was created, but just an FYI, Tom Langdon has since passed the...
Jim, There's a famous song about your home town. Thanks for the info on the 235 cr. I never knew it went over 8:1. All stats I've ever seen say...
Nice work, Gimpy! So that engine features TBI? Who's did you use? 6narow
jimcin, You reduced the 235's cr to 7.5? I thought that was a pretty standard ratio for those engines through most of their life.
Sorry Fordfltrucknut, I didn't think about your truck being a 4X. If it was 2WD it would've been easier to fit in your truck.
