The Jalopy Journal
This is my 39 with the CE kit. No blocks.
I couldn't agree more. that is centrifugal and vacuum advance.
Oil filters were accessories on these engines and the oil was returned via a hollow bolt on the fuel pump stand.
I would suggest pressure testing the block before attempting to remove the studs. It's a lot of work only to find out the block is no good....
I've never heard of anyone doing that.
Equally important as magnafluxing, is a pressure test. There are a lot of places that you can't see that could be cracked. Exhaust crossover,...
The outer sheave on the pulley drives the fan.
I've got a friend who ordered a set of heads for a flathead before Christmas, still no shipping date.
We went to the museum Friday afternoon. What a great place. A must see. Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
Oil pressure has no effect on a properly installed rear seal.
59 originally came with a 10" in a car or 11" in a truck. Who knows what someone may have done in the past. No need for a new flywheel.
See post 13 and 15. Not a good fit for the street.
Got a chance to ride in the 66 again today. Great drive. Time ran out or I could have had a chance to drive it. Next year for sure.
Right, I know at least one bolt does not go through to water, maybe two.
I'll be there on Friday and planning on a ride in 66. Jack
I am not a fan of ballast resistors. I use a 1.5 ohm coil with a 6 volt system and a 3.5 ohm coil with a 12 volt system.
Would only be of interest to someone who wants a restored car. Limited buyers.
An oil filled coil will never be totally full. If it was it would likely explode when heated up. Get a coil for a typical 50 Ford. 1.5 ohms.A...
I for one am done with Iola. We've had 12 spaces there for at least 25 years. Last year because of the Covid cancellation, I did not send in our...
If you can plug a .060 hole, you've got major problems in your engine. If you check parts books, they clearly show a restrictor fitting on the...
I would never use adjustable jets. Also I am not a fan of eliminating the power valves.
Will be there with the 39. We'll be parked by the NAPA display.
They always need to be balanced. I had one once that the machinist said he could not balance.
I get a little over 20 mpg on the highway in my 39 with OD trans.
The kiwi L-100 would be a good choice. What are the specs on the engine being built.
No I doubt that. That is just the grind they designed. The only way to increase lift on a flathead cam is to reduce the base circle, either on a...
5T was a factory stamping. These are probably regrinds on a Ford core. The Harmon and Collins has 258 deg duration with 38 deg overlap and...
I'll be driving the 39 over.
As a new engineer at IHC MotorTruck, my first job was to evaluate the OHC six. It was the 2 barrel version. Would rev to 6000 and the valves...
