x2 on the Signal Stat 900. I also had a cheap one from China that didn't work properly even when new. Based on recommendations from the HAMB...

If they used a cut-off wheel to remove the bearings / races, they might have cut enough of a groove in the axle that lets the gear oil seep out.

Maybe your fuel is getting heated up by the engine while it's on the way to the carb? Try re-routing your fuel line away from any warm / hot...
