Its all personal taste, that's the great thing about building a custom...you build what you like. Take a look at a bunch of 55-56 ford customs...

Yup from the Starbird museum to the Moriarity museum
The proportions of the chop are spot on. Most late 50's cars look odd when chopped, but this is very nice
58-60 thunderbird hood hinges would be worth looking at too
