The Jalopy Journal
Body color with trim rings & stock hubcaps.
Does this year 283 require a cam with a flat on the rear journal ?
I know a 55_56 SBC needs this.
I see it as a home built, maybe with a little help with the aluminum.
I see a 6 spline driveshaft cobbled to the pinion, early Ford trans mount &...
Is your starter an Autolite or a Delco ?
Really doesn't matter. The 4th terminal is the 12 volt coil source for by passing the resister.
I used a...
85hp trans will bolt to the 60 horse motor , but the case must be notched for starter c!earance.
Common fix once upon a time.
Ford & Merc's were 5 1/2" thru '48.
Merc continued 5 1/2" to mid '51. Ford cars went to 4 1/2" in '49.
Just rotate the top 1 set of holes.
Not a big deal.
A broken driveshaft was not an uncommon problem, back in the day.
Larry, if there is a 2021 Hill Climb I'll see you there.
A good NAPA store can fix you up. Special numbers from the back of the book.
An older clerk would know.
I have used the Speedway joints, like...
All stock flathead heads flow about the same.
What heads to use depends on the amount of boost you make.
If your engine is a stocker, it has at...

EAB (52-53) heads are a better choice, more compression.
Stay away from...
Should have EAB heads, more compression than 8BA heads. That's good.
Also, the cam is the best stock flathead cam.

It's a non issue.
Filter cartridge for '42 thru '53 Ford flathead, is Fram C4.

There is no water connected to the intake.
I plug the heat holes under the carb with flat 1/8" pipe plugs, just tap, no need to drill.
Can you pull this side cover off without removing the tranny?

It's a truck, it will ride like a truck.
Pick ups, unlike passenger cars had a spring with less arch & more leaves.
For more info go to the...
Put a REAL electric fuel pump at the tank.
Ditch what you have, use a Carter rotary pump. The small pump will not keep up with the heat.
More info needed what spline and size, but start looking here
