Do you think that the short main shaft of the Jeep T-176 would fit in the T-170 gears and transmission ?
How does the u-joint fit? Did he anneal the shaft to cut the splines ?
Who did your splines? Looks clean. Did they have to anneal it and re harden it? I’m not overly happy with the machine work on mine. And only half...
I wish I could go
Hi, I'm sure it's been talked about before but I couldn't find an answer of what I was wondering about.
I want to install a downdraft intake with...
I must be able to buy a new V8 bearing carrier online ?
Where can I find one ? I'm trying to find a AA bearing carrier but don't seem like anyone sells them.
Maybe they're the same as the V8 ones ?
Manyolcars, did you use the AA pressure plate ? I don't seem to have room for the A throwout bearing.
I have a problem.
Here's the thing. The rear drums are mounted behind the hub. When I put the backing plate on the model A rear end. And then put...
There they are!!
Thanks I was looking on Mac's and seems like they sell the drum with the hub behind only ?
Thanks BCT. But I'm still not sure if I can buy drums and install them behind the hub. If I put them in front of the hub, they will be too far out...
I've recently purchased a set of 1948 passenger car brakes (all around) and my drums are behind the hub and the studs go through the...
Can't wait to try it !
I might have to cut part of the lip off the side of the cross member for assembly. I can assemble it by lifting the front of the...
Thanks Manyolcars for this awesome post!
I'm wondering what's the combo you used between the motor/transmission? Fly wheel, pressure plate, clutch and release bearing.
If you jack up the wheel as far as the jack will let you, you'll see what clearance you have. Don't forget, not only this side of the wishbone...
If you are willing to ship it, I'll buy it from you?
You can PM me to make arrangements.
I got everything done on mine. Just wondering what clutch disk I can use???? I'm running a model A pressure plate and flywheel with a AA bell housing.
I would anneal it, but I'm not sure if once annealed, if it will need to be re hardened? I'm not sure if the shaft would be strong enough to stay...
I wonder how he cut the threads inside the end? I thought it was too hard for a tap...
That's good to know,
Who machined your shaft and did it had to be annealed and back hardened after? Did you only anneal the end where you got it milled or...
I don't think there's enough room on mine...?
RoddyB34 that's what I was thinking of doing.. So the seal rides on the U joint right?
There's still oil coming out through the bearing. The bearing is not sealed. The only seal is on the slip yolk at the end of the tail housing....
this may be a stupid question but... How do you keep the oil in the transmission with the tail housing cut off ?
Thanks for the info. However, I went with a T170 (it's a 4 speed OD) which will be very good for the low ratio rear end on the model A.
