You'll need one of these if you use a factory 2X4 manifold. Note the recessed mid section.

That pitting is likley from running it without an air filter. Rings are probably toasted.
A couple of my sets-
Yep- They work great. I run off the front one and the rear one kicks in about half throttle.
The crank journal's are hollow. It's a good idea to pull the plug's and clean them, then tap some threads and install screw in plugs.
