I think you mean his Ackermann steering geometry is messed up because of the tie rod out front.
About $1000 to restore the interior wood on a 13' Whaler around here. I did my own with 10 coats of marine varnish.

I had mine converted to Pertronix by Bubba's Hot Rod Shop in Indianapolis. It works great. He has coils too. He is an alliance vendor.
Also, having the mounting points that far apart will limit your turning radius.

I always thought the T coupe would look great with a '28-'29 A truck cowl and a hair cut.. It would be super easy swap as they use the same doors.

I didn't read every post and it may sound dumb, but did you check the belt tension? Could it be slipping under high load.
Also the 262 in 1975. Had one in a Monza.
