I run my lathe with a VFD and my mill with a rotary phase converter... the VFD is WAY better in every way!! And they are cheap these days
Starts good... idles in gear and pulls hard the whole track.. yup you got it figured out!! What did you have to change to hit the sweat spot?
Was some truth to it way back in the days before modern valve materials were developed... nothing to worry about these days.
I have installed hundreds of sleeves... I prefer to not bore all the way through to leave a bottom ledge for the sleeve to sit on so it cant slide...
We used to have to align hone the mains on a lot of FE engines during rebuilds. Probably not your issue but something to be aware of.

Just remember that the valve reliefs in the pistons dont line up with the valves in the twisted heads. I think its the intakes if I remember...

Pretty easy to do mistake, I know I have done it. I check them a few times before I install them now after I made that mistake!
