Haven't yet seen a concise parts list of what it takes to put a T-5 behind a SBC. Wondering, can it be done using GM parts, etc? What car's bellhousing, slave cyl., etc. I just don't wanna spend $350 at Summit for a bellhousing and kit that works in this application- Thanks in advance- Splinter
The 4.3 V6 S-10 trans setup should be a direct bolt on because the 4.3 shares the bellhousing pattern with the SBC.
I don't see why it wouldn't. Before you give me to much praise, I should tell you that I've never actually tried it, but it *should* work with no problems. Remember that some T-5's are stronger than others, and the S-10 generally isn't concidered one of the stronger ones. There are a few discussions on which T-5 is the bect currently on the board.
any chev m/t bell will work, use the appropriate clutch, astro 11", jeep 10", s10 9" for stock parts. find a competant parts guy and he will know. BTW 86 and newer use a different flywheel than 85 prior
Grab a '84 up bellhousing and slave from a Camaro or Firebird. Check the type of flywheel flange to see if you can use it as they changed over about then. Also the bigger wheel doesn't fit in a T5 housing without a little grinding. If you have a later round flange SBC look for HO to get th elight weight one. If you have the earlier try www.KajunJon.com for a 15# steel one modelled after the later. Just cut the line to the slave. You can tap the slave for pipe thread and run braided to a Tilton master cylinder. Go to www.hybridz.org and read the pertinent section.
..but the astro's keep the tranny strait. 4.3 v6 is a sbc cut down so it does interchange completely with the sbc at the ass end and the frontend . also the 87-89 'burban and blazer had old style bodies with hydraulic setups, which afford adaptation... ie longer hoses and strait thru pedals
I just used a hydraulis slave off the k o the original arm from a mechanical clutch. Used a 60's 70's aluminum bell housing too. Bolted right up. Just had to get a clutch disc that matched. jerry
