Can the cotton buffing wheels that usually get mounted in bench grinders be installed in something portable? I want to polish a larger item (beer keg) which would be awkward to hold for long periods of time.
Is an Airstream trailer big enough? How to polish your Airstream with a Porter Cable polisher from Harbor Freight and a few accessories from Home Depot. http://www.airstreamguy.com/polishing_info Your tank should be a breeze compared to this.
I held my keg in front of my baldor pedestal grinder, worked great. If I can do you can to i'm only a 150#.
Large buffer, white wool pads, heavy compound (to start) may need to sand (hand/DA) surface 1st. Silica is evil wear a mask, long sleeves.

Ive done a few aluminum saddle tanks from semi's.I just used my air buffer that I would use to cut paint with a wool pad and 3m super duty compound. The sd compound is a bit too harsh for paint but really does a number on aluminum.
The short answer is yes...the same wheels used on pedestal polishers can be used on hand held. I use 8" on a makita sander/polisher. I've polished literally hundreds of tanks and wheels and anything else you can think of thats aluminum! Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!

Thanks for the ideas. I'm pretty sure my keg is stainless steel, so a little more rubbing to get it nice and shiny.
Empty the keg first. But wait a few hours before holding it up to the buffer. Edit: I just saw you're from Canada. You'll probably only need to wait one hour.
Maybe not for your case, but buffing wheels can be mounted in place of a table saw blade. This would provide a large surface to rest parts.
I doubt that the keg is stainless but if it is you want to use a Sissal buffing pad first with the black compound followed up by a loose buffing pad with white or green compound. EH.
