Is this the same as an FE motor? I have a bell housing for one but don't know if its the same or not.

I don't have the car or engine. Just a four speed that was behind one of those motors. Just curious about the bell housing. Here are some pics. It was in a 57 Fairlane that was an old circle rack car. Ran back in the early 60s. 1958-60 MELs use the FE bellhousing pattern. so if the housing came from Merc it will work.

Would a casting # help identify? I'll have to scrape of all the grime and look for one.

I'll see if I can find any casting #s or any identifying marks. I'd like to list it for sale but need to know what it is first.

  13. Maybe this for a HiPo 260/289 ????

Bolt pattern looks to be the same. Reinforcement ribs on your unit could have been a later added production change.

Dig out the casting number and I will see if I have the correct books to tell what it is. What material is yours made out of?

Its aluminum Oldmics. Yes, I'll look for a number on it.

    I'm putting it behind a Y-Block.

The trans that is that came with it. Top loader.

As someone said earlier, not a FE. It doesn't have 3 starter bolts.

Definitely looks like a early 5 bolt 289 housing. If it is a FoMoCo casting, the casting number won't tell you much other then the year. First letter and number will give the tooling date. B9 = 1959, C5 = 1965, D4 = 1974, E3 = 1983, etc. That will help narrow it down to what engine family it came from.

Also, try measuring the spacing on the top bolts. This diagram will help.

  17. If you have the MPC Cross Reference Books - then you can get the actual part number from the casting number on the part.

Maybe its not a well know way to get Ford numbers from what is actually cast on the specific part?

What do you think guys? Will these numbers help identify?

  20. That's what it is.... Will fit the '62-64 221/260/289 blocks, nothing else.

Yuppers and if you google C3AA-6394-C the Ebay link for those things comes up and you see a number of identical ones on Ebay for a whole lot of different prices http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_trk...AA-6394-C&_nkw=C3AA-6394-C&_sacat=0&_from=R40

Still a decent piece that guys running early blocks are looking for.
