Well so far I haven't found much on the big Ford sixes. I've had a 223 six and it was fine, but not enough more power for me to consider substituting for my 230 flathead.

Also I thought Chrysler made a larger slant six for the trucks and vans. My '84 Ram van had a slant 6 but I don't know the displacement. It seems it was only a 225 after all.

Chrysler built a 265 flathead 6 that will replace the 230, ya just need to move the radiator forward a few inches.

My 50 Chev Styleline 2 door has the original 216 in it with just over 50 thousand miles. I've got a 2 carb manifold and a set of Fentons in boxes on the shelf just waiting their turn to go on the car. Right now it's bone stock but runs great when it's not plugged up with flakes of crap from the gas tank every couple of weeks. Car was stored in an open shed since 62 before I got it last summer. Does a shed find qualify as a barn find? :)
New gas tank and sender on the way. Already replaced the fuel pump.

The 226 is a vastly under used engine. There is speed equipment out there if you can find it.

Here is my "Beater" shop truck, a 55 Fargo with 251 4 spd, 3.23 rear gears.
    Again not exactly a "hotrod".
I would like to go with split exhaust, 2 bbl intake and holly webber carb, dual point dizzy, shave head .030.
I love these old Mopar Flathead 6s, owned a few of them ,have 2 now this 251 and a 265 from a 1 ton truck..

My dad was a machinist and mechanic. MOPAR flathead 6s were his favorite engines. As a kid made a lot of round trips between Texas and California in Vehicles powered by them. I think one thing he liked was that roadside repairs could be done and the things that broke were usually not deep inside although once he pulled the pan to remove a rod and we limped int Hackberry,AZ on 5 cylinders.

SixBall, Ya just can't buy a bonding experience like that. ;)

I remember when the muffler of our Scout collapsed internally. The engine just choked and sputtered. It took us a while to figure it out.

We opened that sucker up with a claw hammer and a jack handle, by the side of I-10 and it sounded like a big motorboat all the way back to Phoenix. :D

My '50 Fleetline (non-hotrod) has a 216 and my '46 Fleetmaster coupe has a '61 235 in it. Working on doing a retro-rod with headers three in the floor and probably dual intake on that one. Does that qualify as a hotrod?

Hell Yes! My first really hot rodded car was a '50 Chevy coupe, gutted and jacked up gasser style with a basically stock 216. Couldn't afford speed parts so made it quicker by removing weight.

Recently bought a '49 Plymouth Business Coupe with a flathead 6 on board. Never had any experience with this motor before but I'm already in love with the little thing. Looking for a 230 to build and swap in later if anyone know where there might be one close to Tx. Glad to see so many fans of the flathead on this thread.

I want to see a lot more pictures of this one. There are some similarities to where my '26 Chevy roadster is going.

I have a 59 F100 with a 3.7L 223 pushing a 3 on the tree, as well as a 59 Fairlane with the same 3.7L 223 pushing a ford-o-matic trans. I love them both, great torque and enough HP to sustain highway speeds.

Straight 6, 250c.i. in my '64 Chevy C10. Runs great but either going to split the exhaust manifold or put a set of headers on it.
