Why not have a go? It doesn't have to be difficult or expensive. Make a simple roadster or T bucket style body. An open car is forgiving of squeeks and rattles. You don't even have to make doors, hop in over the side. If sheet metal is not your thing the Ed Roth fibreglass body is pretty easy. Basically make a full scale model of plaster, cover with fibreglass, and break out the plaster. Or, if you prefer working wood, a woody style is eye catching and looks good. I even made a body out of old panelling one time. I wanted to make a mockup of a sidecar body before I made one out of sheet metal. So I used some old second hand Luaun paneling turned over, held together with short pieces of 1X2 pine in the joints. With a plywood floor. It looked good, and came out strong so I covered it with fibreglass and smoothed it over with Bondo. That was 15 years ago and it is still in use, should last a long time if the owner continues to keep it out of the rain.
This is a good example of someone who should have stuck to something he was good at It's for sale up here with the chassis he built for it
Here is three home made cars I built..The 32 chevy roadster was my first,The truck was my second build, The new owner made a lot of nice changes,, Motor, stickers, and a few others, The Last one is a C-cab I am now doing..
i build this aluminiumbody about three years ago. the frame was also handmade by a friend of mine. i took the form off a fiberglassbody i imported from the united states. i want to start building a 27steelbody this year. mattes blechwerk.com
Thanks.. Yes.. I posted a lot of my build's there at one time.. No longer a Member there.. Site has gone to ****..To many poser's there..Found some better place's to hang out...
After reading Cboy's book and flipping my 31 coupe 3 times, it's coming back as a scratch bilt super cab 31 maybe with a ford bed, right now the cowl will be my starting point, since that's all thats strait
WOW! There is some real talent here, I have seen some amazing examples. Heres my attempt at a scratch built body. I hope to have it on the road by spring.
the 32 coupe body you are reffering to was built for ian eastons stockcar about 25 years ago,it was hand built from aluminium by bruce kimmins in shannon nz.we were supposed to take a mould off it but ran out of time.at the time it was running a gurney eagle motor in it
Kingpins 23 roadster is amazing. I have seen quite a few photo's of it when it was blue and white. Seen this one on www.traditionalhotrod.com that is similar. I have been thinking of building one my self from plywood and fiberglass. I have built custom fiberglass subwoofer enclosures with fleece and fiberglass resin and will do the same with the body.
Here's another one I did, still needs finishing and I may reshape the track nose. Also busy on a scratchbuilt '34 Coupe body (and chassis) - I'll start a build thread when I'm a little deeper into it...
wow I like the black car snakecbaker posted above , would be cool to see more photos or a build thread on it
I haven't been able to find any other photo's of it. I don't know who owns it but is a realy cool vehicle.
Here's a couple of bodies i did from scratch: 1 Daimler Special 2 Railton 3 Armstrong Siddeley 4 Steiger Mario
Just started mine but going to take a few years to finish. going to build it like a custom fiberglass subwoofer enclosure. Fleece and fiberglass resin over plywood instead of MDF. Here is what I started with this is the progress I have made. I will start a build thread once I start the fleece and fiberglass.
