per Larsen usa-1 wheel hop......todays young have no clue to the first time science of the huge new power of the sixties combined with slow tire technology and traction experiments as tires did change and power doubled. all first time science with rewards to those who figured it out first,,,
I guess that's why we find the sixties the most interesting of drag history ......
,,,,,too bad todays dragster are 30 years stagnant,,,,,and in need of rule changes...
and this just my old goat observation/opinion...

"Pay no attention to the mess in the garage, my best work comes from chaos."

Mike Britton, your signature line pretty well describes any desk I ever worked from.

When I was at IRP, Bob Daniels used to complain about it, and I told him it must have something to do with my newspaper/magazine background.

One day during the U.S. Nationals, Wally Parks walked in, sat down next to me and said, "Can I stay here a while? This is the only office in this building where I feel comfortable."

    Suspicions confirmed.

I think that the picture is probably the results of this wheelstand. And it's current not vintage.

But this isn't it, is it? I think this one is a "tribute" racer.

  14. ^^^^ Easy way to tell. Look at the clothes everyone is wearing. We didn't dress like that then.

That, and the late model van in the background......

You are all correct... Bruce Larsen had his original 68 Camaro and his brand new 68 Camaro funny cars at the NHRA New England Hot Rod Reunion. By outside appearances it would be tough to tell them apart. The new car can make full bore 1/4 mile passes. I applaud them for keeping in the true spirit of the 60's funny cars.

Despite the driving and tuning efforts of Dale Armstrong, this car never quite made it. Ended up back in Canada as a A/FC
under the same name but with solid blue paint scheme.

Driver appears to be wearing the prototype Simpson Fire T shirt.

  26. IIRC firesuits weren't required in unblown gas classes. Am I correct on this?

Mike, you are, at least as far as Irwindale, San Fernando, etc were concerned. Don Wilson and I ran a gas-burning unblown roadster in '67 as a precursor to Panic, didn't need a firesuit. I wore one anyway, because the Big Guys did, not because we needed it.
