Boy would I like to have been there for this!! Just about as interesting to check it out as a shell as when it's finished I think. To see where the cuts are and how they were finished etc
Quick update on the Dunn car... The chassis and some of the chassis components are coated and waiting for assembly. The front clip is currently at the stripper and the body is patiently waiting it's turn in the tank.
That Chassis does look very nice, thanks for the update. I got to see the car at the Portland Roadster show last year and am glad to see that it is finally getting a full restoration.
Chassis assembly continues... The body is in the tank right now but we should have it out by Monday. We plan to have the car sitting in our booth this coming weekend at the Portland Roadster Show, so stay tuned for sneak peeks of the body in bare steel.
I think the first time I saw this beauty was in the Little pages. I might still have the magazine. Will go look. A car emblazoned in my mind .
are you restoring to first (1953 my favorite) version or 1958 second version...? just great seeing this car getting done...Thank you for sharing
We are restoring it to the 2nd version. There has been a lot of talk concerning which version to build but in the end Steve has decided to restore the 2nd version. The car is basically complete and Steve does not want to "toss out" the metal work performed by Valley Custom Shop only to replace it with S.A.R. metal work. However, in the process we have been documenting many particular points about the car including the exact section lines in hopes of cloning the first version at a later date.
We have the body back from being stripped. Seeing the body in bare metal is almost like looking back in time. Very cool to see the metal work and lead work of Valley Custom Shop.

Wow! The body looks amazing! What/How did you strip it? I have a 50's sectioned coupe that I'd like to strip and build from the ground up like you guys are doing. What a treat!
We had the body dipped at American Metal Cleaning here in Portland. We have used them for years and prefer this method over any kind of blasting. The body is so solid, and you're right, it looks absolutely amazing! Thanks for following along!
This is very exiting! The early version is one of my all time favourites but I agree that preserving the second version body work is the right thing to do. Keep up the great work and updates.
Restoration on the Ron Dunn Ford continues... These shots are from last Friday right before we loaded it up and hauled it down to The Rodder's Journal studio for a photo shoot.
Once you get back from the photo session, could you grab some blue pinstripe tape and photo document the section lines for the rest of us?
