What is the body of this thing? Looks like a 26-27 T cowl on a 23 shell with an early turtle deck? Is it really a Willys?

Best I can tell from the way the firewall was riveted onto the cowl, the dash shape, and the widshield frame. It was a Willy's 91 touring coupe cut down to a 2 door before I got it. I bought the turtle deck last year and tailored it to fit (to change my model T modified style tank to a fuel cell car).

Looks good, are you still going to use the same top as before ? Will be watching for finished shots.

Yep, I just need to wash all the dust out of the fabric before I put it on. It literally goes on in less than 3 minutes.

As straight as you got the body looking, I should take bodywork lessons from you.

I'm dreading mine and want to do it and paint it myself :)

It only took me two complete rounds, lol. the closer you get to paint, the more frustrating it is. I swear, blemishes, pits, and imperfections come out of nowhere. I had the car in paint before and still had to go through 2 rounds of heavy coats of hi build primer to get it straight.
Problem with this car was the cowl was straight, everything else is round - including the doors and deck lid. There is a lot going on for such a tiny car.

I got my front tires on tonight. A lot of people have been hating on my front tires for a long time, I agree they look much better.

When you first started posting how you were making changes to the car to allow a fuel cell I was weary because your car is one that I really liked. The turtle deck grew on me in time.

Then you changed up the exhaust and I was thinking - uh oh - hes gonna screw it up!
    But you didn't!
    The change looked good.

I opened this thread and cringed! NO...not the color and flames! They worked well for your car. Made it stand out.
But you know something? It's growing on me too...and I realize why:
It's because your car has that thing...that proportionality that simply works.
Changing the color, the pipes, the turtle deck...none of it takes that away.

I guess what I'm saying is, you have a good eye Mr Fredericks and you transfer that to reality with style.
Not much of the car follows the norm either...yet it works so well.
Not an easy thing to do in this age of "carved in stone" expectations!

That comes right back to its builder! You did good. ;)

I really like this car, I'm usually not a fan of turtle decks, I have to agree with Hackerbuilt's comments the proportions are just right on this car. I keep going back to the pics, please post more with full side shots. I vote for the gold "picture frame" striping, if you go that route gold wheels or a wdie gold stripe on balck wheel would be complimentary. The way it sits is damn nice though, perfect for 2014 summer, get some miles on it. Cut and buff it this winter, touch up any rock chips then from the miles you put on.

Thank you for the compliment. The "carved in stone" expectations hits the nail on the head with me. This car is a horse of a different color since I got it, which was the attraction to me.
I admit, I initially fell into the gimmicky rat rod thing, but over the years, I have gotten many ideas here to remedy the build to some degree. I'm just glad the turtle deck thing worked with the help of painting everything the same color. It's time for me to go enjoy it without being partially embarrassed, lol.
