Technical Im just Baffled... How did it get there...

I found some really old and raunchy Porno Polaroids behind a trunk panel once on a customers car. Looked to be from the 70's. Once you look at something, you can't "un-see" it, and boy, do I ever wish I could! They went right back where I found them.

We also found a pretty good sized bag of Coke, (yes COCAINE), behind an interior kick panel in a customers car...it was also replaced where found, and the owner was informed of it's location. I have no idea what happened after that, and don't want to know...

A friend in high school bought an old Sheriffs car at auction, and when working on it, found a nice big lid of pot behind the rear seat...must have been stashed by someone in handcuffs riding to jail. It was turned over to the authorities by his father, (DANG IT! Hey, it was the 70's...).

Found an entire box of Kleenex, in the right front fender of an old Tiger I was restoring. It had been placed there, one sheet at a time, by the rodents that were building their house there.

LOL That reminds me of when my father passed away and I went to pick up his old Scout: it had been sitting over 20 years.

When I opened the hood a possum had filled the entire engine compartment with leaves (and no small quantity of possum poop) right to the top. Not one bit of engine was visible. Just leaves. And poop.

I spent hours with a stick and a hose and a rake and shovel, and when I raked up the "un-caked" mass of leaves it made a pile almost as big as the car.

 

In 1985 my dad ordered a brand new Monte Carlo SS. When the car came off of the carrier at the dealership, there was about a half dozen tools under the hood left there from the factory. He still has the tools. I wish he still had the car.

Found an unused Trojan condom stuffed in the heater box of the 1965 Mercury Comet convertible I am now working on.
Asked my son if he might have any use for it. He merely smiled and said "Finders...Keepers."

 

When I was building machinery all the time it was customary to leave a quarter inside one of the legs or welded sections.

Now, to all you who have found MY lost tools in your cars, please ship them back to me. I am missing Snap-On, Mac and Proto ratchets, sockets and combination wrenches..........just PM me.

Found inside the quarter panel of my '47 Plymouth. I've owned the car 29 years & never removed the upholstery, so it's been there at least that long.

A large speaker magnet, a window regulator clip, a cheap Taiwanese 7/16" wrench, some #6 flathead wood screws, and several #8 trim clip nuts (not pictured.)

 

I pulled the back seat out of an old 56 Chevy one time and found a blasting cap, we gently removed it and layed it over an old log in dads pasture and shot it with a shotgun to detonate it.

 

Parting out my old 50 Dodge, waaaay deep down and behind the back seat I found an old curved Crescent wrench labeled : Buffum tool co. Buffum Louisiana, and had swaztikas on either side of the wrench. Being made in the USA its obviously pre war, I always wondered who left it. The cars long gone, the wrench I still have.

Never did figure this one out.
In 68, I bought a 65 GTO off a used car lot in Garland Texas. Had a little over 30,000 miles on it. 3 deuce, 4 speed, 3:73 posi. The engine went south not long after I bought it, one of the head gaskets blew. I decided to rebuild the engine since I was working in a NAPA store at the time.
When I pulled the engine and laid it on the driveway, it rattled. I rolled the engine over, pulled off the oil pan, and there was a Snap-On 9/16 combination wrench in the oil pan!
The engine had a windage tray, so the wrench couldn't have come from above, and I think this was the first time the engine had been down since new.
Never did figure that one out.

 

We had a D6 Cat come in the shop once and while draining the oil out of the finals a round ball was seen in the drain hole. We fished around and found a half length of a ball peen hammer handle. One of the guys who worked on it with "the boss" years ago remembered a hammer came up missing. Yes the jokes about that hammering noise in the "6" came with a vengeance. It was still in there at the auction. We figured unless the Cat was on it's top, there may be more trouble for the operator than the machine.

We also discovered a pair of pliers in the brake drum of a 980B Cat that "the boss" left in there...his name was still inscribed on on them....go figure...

 

Worked at the local Cadillac dealership back in the late 60's. I originally did new car prep, and often found things left in the cars at the factory. Sometimes accidentally left, and other times obviously left for the new car prep to find, or the new owner to find.
Later I moved to doing minor repairs, which meant I got the job of finding all sots of squeaks and rattles. I remember one new Cadillac we had to cut the rockers open on as something was rolling back and forth during braking and acceleration, and we narrowed it down to the rockers. We pulled the sill plates and cut an access hole. After jacking the car up and down to see what was rolling around, I found two large ball bearings some jerk had dropped in at the factory! Never did tell the owner what we found, but called the regional rep and let him know so he could contact the factory.

 

I was once restoring a 76 Riviera & when starting I pulled off the inner door panels I found n easy $50.00 plus in quarters dimes & nickels they must have fallen in thru the ashtray slot or something .pretty crazy !!

 

I found about $16 in change in the driver's door of an 86 Chev pickup when doing a repair. All I can figure is a previous owner liked to drop coins down beside the window and hear them bounce.

 

Americas first sex toy so I am told.

 

I found a old skeleton key between the roof skin an header in my 32 truck.

I bought a 1968 Roadrunner once and when I took out the interior, I found about $45.00 in change and three of those nylon masks that you wear over your head when you rob liquor stores.

 

in 1964 my brother and I ordered 2 two new fords. His xl had a lunch sack with dried up food in it under the back seat. my fairlane had no treasures. so yes it does happen.

 

I'm with what #2 said; A customer with a (then new) 56 New Yorker kept going back for a rattle. Dealer and a factory rep finally located a coke bottle inside the frame.... Which HAD to have been intentionally put there.

I bought a two owner, 30K mile, untouched '73 340 Dart Sport back around 1997. I pulled the back seat out looking for a build sheet, but couldn't find one anywhere. When I carefully removed the right side rear trim panel, I found an empty kingsize Tab (remember Tab?) bottle just lying there. Never made a sound. I still have the bottle.
