There was a bedroom door in our home when I was a teen,... you know the one,.. the one your Dad would open,.. stick his head in and ask (read that "tell") you to do something,.. tell you to clean up this "Pig sty"!!!! ,.. go cut the grass,... take out the trash,.... you know,.. "That Door.

Anyway,.. it all started innocently enough,... I had a couple stickers,... I didn't like putting them on cars, so I stick one to the back of my door (to cover up a hole from a dart ),... then another,.. you know how it goes.

The door would swing open,.. Dad would tell me something,.. and the door would close, and there would be the stickers that would make his head explode if he knew they were there,... Now when I left, there was only a few on there,... My Brother used that room,... than later on my Nephew,.. and it looks like they kept up the tradition !

I really believe that, Dad never seen this,... Well, after Mom & Dad passed away (Mom knew about it) , and we had to sell the house,.... I ended up replacing the door. and brought this home.

Sometimes,.. while looking at it,... I wish I would see it open,.. Dad stick his head in,.. and tell me to go cut the grass,...... I lost him 20 years ago April 10th. I really miss him.

Anyway,... here is the door in question.

There are only 2 decals alike on there.

These are my two, the roadster has a U.S. ARMY decal in the window. Fort Custer, MICH. The coupe has an original 1941 Roosevelt decal in the back window.

That Ohare decal was in the back window of my mothers 61 Falcon. I grew up in the bleachers of Ohare. We spent a lot of time there until we moved to Ohio when I was 6. Fond memories.

Here are just a few of the 935 on the website right now.

I have another 1,000 in my collections but just don't have the time to post them all on the website.

Enjoy the trip down memory lane. Jim Hill

Where in Texas was Harlingen Dragway located and what years was it in business?

I always love learning the history of many of the old drag strips.

    Thanks Jimbo

Harlingen is a city in Cameron County in the heart of the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas. I have a friend that raced that track in the 50's and gave me a OG decal. I heard it might be open again.

Thanks for posting alaska 53. I had never heard of Harlengen Dragway.

The decal on the 31 Model A coupe appears to read Branford Speed and Custom. I have never seen this one before.

Back years ago there were so many speed and custom shops all over the country.

Many of these speed shops played a very important part in the history of hot rods and drag racing.

I think it's always good to remember the early days of racing and hot rodding and how we got to this point in time.

Old decals are interesting because just looking at them brings back wonderful memories for many of us.

I have had people call me on the phone who would start talking about an old drag strip decal and then start crying because it brought back so many memories for them.

One lady told me she had meet her husband in 1964 at Utica Rome Dragway while both were drag racing and they had now been married for 48 years.

I have learned that it is more then just a decal. It's really all about remembering the day's when you were younger and having fun.

My wife's favorite saying is "The Boy's Grew Up and the Father never did"

Just my opinion. Jim "Jimbo" Hill

  30. Man, this thread sure takes me back. Thanks for posting. I would love to find an original Dragmaster waterslide if anyone has one they would part with.
