So, I know many may not like it but it's my car and I decided to relocate my fuel cell. my original tank was very rusty inside also. I bought some 32 frame horns and horn covers and a tank. Like you said, some may not like it, but who cares? It's yours, do with it as you will. Be happy you're doing something to your car, the way you want it done.
Looking good so far, I like it ! - probably a safer location for a gas tank than the original, so now there is 2 reasons to do it. Perhaps move it a little more in towards the body if possible? Keep us updated.
just my opinion, but I would tuck it in a bit more to get the filler almost next to the rear cross rail. A bit forward may give you easier access to the sender. I am about to get my A back on the road and used a universal tank from Tanks that fits right behind the seat back, at the front of the trunk. It is just two inches forward of the foot space if I had a rumble seat. Your solution gives you back the full trunk which is good if you take a lot of trips.
Thanks for the responses guys. The pics aren't the true finally location, I had it held up with two floor jacks. The filler neck will end up being about an 1 1/2" away from body. I am kinda limited by my rear crossmember. Don't want to have to modify it if I don't absolutely have to. I think once it is painted it will blend a lot better Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. That looks real nice, I've always liked the '32 tank on full fendered A's. Will you be fitting a rear bumper? If so the brackets may effect the angle of things. Bob

Its going to look like it grew there. I've known several guys that have done this and they both came out very nice.
I'm seriously thinking about doing it on my 31 Victoria. I'm running full fendered with bumpers front and rear and a 32 tank should blend right into the back of the car when I am done. I wouldn't trust the stock tank on a bet as it sat outside for probably 50 years and I am not too enthused about having the tank behind what amounts to the back seat with a filler on the back of the body.
I wouldn't worry, the A doors will fly open when you get ramed from behind by some jerk on a cell phone, just unbuckle and step away. Bob

I actually read all the articles I could find here on the hamb and looked at the dagels product. The general idea is very basic. The price however to buy one of these "kits" is pretty expensive. I basically saved 50% by just buying the horns, horn covers, tank, spreader bar, and some steel. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
A little update on my fuel tank. Made the bracket, fitted it, welded it to frame, primed, and painted. Gotta spray the frame horn covers and tank. In the process of running the fuel line. Posted using the Full Custom H.A.M.B. App!
I love the look, you've done a great job. I have a full fendered A coupe as well and often wondered what this mod looked like.

I think it looks great... as much as I like full fendered As, the rear usually looks too "open" unless the fenders are bobbed and/or there's a rear pan... but the '32 tank looks perfect there.
