Can we start a picture thread featuring these early trucks.

I am talking trucks not pickups.

I've always been facinated by these early trucks and considered building one as a hot rod project.

Considering there are a number of rear body styles to choose from including flat decks, wreckers, cargo and express delivery bodies.

I'd be interested to see what is out there and what other folks have done project wise.

Just love those AA wire wheels...

Here is another interesting AA truck with what looks to be a T tudor body added to haul the whole family.

I guess the required for this truck were easier to come by it would have been a true dual cab setup...

If anybody can convert this pic and re-post it I would appreciate your help.[/COLOR]

This isn't a bad idea at all. It could be a good resource. I know I come across a lot of AA and TT parts, or at least what the seller things is AA or TT parts, or AA/TT parts mistaken for A/T parts... anyway, there's a lot of these trucks in pieces up my way and they come up for sale a lot. A good collection of pictures could help HAMBers like me familiarize themselves with these trucks.

Not that many pic's posted on that site but what I am seeking is trucks that have been hot rodded not stockers.

A stock AA or TT truck is almost undriveable on main roads due to the very slow speeds they are capable of.

We see folks doing great COE projects regularly on the HAMB.

Do we have any hot rodded AA or TT trucks owners here on the HAMB?

I do recall posts from time to time where folks say they have such a vehicle and they are looking at build options, but so far I dont believe we have had any further build results...

I have heard of a Model AA Panel delivery being hot rodded over here in CO which I am hoping to either see in the flesh or get some pic's to post later.

There has got to be more truck projects out there...

  10. Keep this thread going. I've been building a '29 AA for decades (going to start the H.A.M.B's slowest build thread someday) and using axles, wheels, etc. off a '60 F-350, a 351 Windsor and an AOD. I'll add photos soon. Yes, these can be hotrodded and look nice and tough.

I have a 29 AA flat bed hot rod I've had over 40 years. Somewhere in hamb archives is a picture of it with 36' 5th wheel RV (2006?). Not sure if I can load picture's now (no photo bucket type acct). If someone want's, I could e-mail them some pic's for posting.

    Spec's;
1930 AA front frame with 1929 AA back half with frame rails reversed (put's front gentle taper to rear). Cab set back 6" as stock needed 4" recessed firewall. After 30 years of monkey leg needs I set cab back with frame extension in 1999. Also went to a full 8' flatbed length at that time.
Currently it is at 147" wheelbase use 32 fat beam front axle (30 AA front spring) with axle offset drilled for chevy 38 kingpins/spindles. To that is added a homebrew dually front disk brake setup. Frame in back was paralleled to use chevy 3800 springs. I have recently changed this over to hybrid pack to get some bounce in the rear.
Rear is a mid 70 c&c (cab and chassis) Corp 14 bolt dually axle. This has a 'Blackbird Custom' rear disk kit. Their kit allows use of stock 16" bud wheels. Now has crate 350" with Weiand 177" blower going to TH400 (tranny has been in since mid 70's). Two piece custom driveshaft.

Currently pull a 23' RV 5th wheel. In past had BBC with blower and pulled a 36' 5th wheel.

Left out bit of stuff so let me know if any questions.

    Earl

The 29 AA flatbed was built in 1971 had 307 SB with Muncie 4 speed was my daily driver till 1975. In 1982 I built the 25 TT flatbed 289 C4 sold it in 1988 . Both trucks were great drivers. The 29 was last known to be in the LA area. The 27 TT went to Lake Havasu AZ then sold and went north Oregon or Washington. Sorry about the small pictures had to scan old photos.

If you take the Kenworth stacks off, it is a very nice looking Truck.

OFT what type of axle were you running with the 8 lug wheels or did you have adapters to run them?

The 8 lug wheels are a dually setup (steel 16" inner-Alcoa 16" outers) on factory Chevy cab and chassis Corp 14 bolt rear end. The C&C is around 6" narrower than the dually pickup 14 bolt.

My 29AA truck is a full on one ton dually (pictures with full yellow paint).
