It sure looks the same!! Even a hint of the same caps that George ran in the early 50s.

So what is the plan for the gate? Is it gonna live on the truck, or is it going to be retired in a safe place?

I think Von Dutch would want it to stay on there... scare some traffic behind you. OR at least make a recreation of it on that spare gate you have!

  15. The tailgate is going on display. I'll either duplicate the artwork and striping on the extra tailgate, or fill in the extra tailgate.

Check out the new stance guys!!

I see no issue with a duplication and saving the original. That "...only once..." thing applies big time. I can't think of anything mild enough to clean it except maybe some liquid dish detergent like Dawn or the like. Even then I'd tread softly and try an inconspicuous area 1st. It has to be cleaned, right? I'd also cover it with some clear plastic like 1/8 plexi or even a piece of glass. It's had enough of mother nature, uncovered AND covered.

Wow & wow, see what happens when you miss this place for a week!

That art work is so cool, and amazing its still intact.

Having just found this thread, I missed most of the pics as they are over viewed/gone... dang, any chance of fixing that for those of us slow off the mark?

    Thanks for sharing!

    Great thread got even better.
Back in the day Von Dutch and Jeffries were running buddies. People refered to them as Von Dutch and the kid.
It makes me glad to see that this truck has gone to someone that has an appreciation for what it is historicaly and not just how much is it worth.
I would find someone to duplicate that tailgate art for the daily driver. And by all means preserve the original. In fact you may want to go so far as to contacting an art preservationist to get some idea as to the best way to preserve it.JMHO.
