Guys, I have a friend who's Grandson is building a real neat Hot Rod. With Chuck's help, Daniel has all ready mounted a late '90s T-Bird IRS (I know OT - just remember it is all home built). They are now working on the front suspension. Of all the cars to use it is the front suspension from a '70s Pacer ! They were popular in the late 80s as suspensions for Street Rods. All they had to do to get it under the frame was a pie cut about where the axle c/l was. They then spread the front frame horns and it dropped right in. The drivetrain will be small block Ford with auto trans. Body is a Fordor Sedan. They will be chopping it and doing some other mild modifications. If you guys are interested, I would need some one to post pix for me. PM me you e-mail and I will send them to you.
Looks like that IRS tucked in there pretty nicely. Congratulations. Grandfather and grandson doing it together. Can it be better than that? Like Randy Travis lyrics, I thought my granddad walked on water. I bet this young man thinks the same.
Ravenwood, I agree with your comment. Grandpa (Chuck) and Grandson (Daniel) have worked on a '33 Plymouth Coupe previously. Chuck shows Daniel where to start and Daniel does what he says. The IRS was the first project and I think it came out pretty clean. Chuck does the final welding and Daniel made all the pieces out of plate. The front seems to be quite simple. It mounted up pretty quick. It is still mocked up but thyey have the mounting figured out.
First, Thanks to -Brent- for posting the pix for the computer illiterate (me). Second , Thanks for the positive comments. Third, Update - Daniel was busy Fri (2 Jul) installing the right side quarter. thanks to Junkyard John for donating the quarter to replace the damaged one. Also great new after the body is back in shape and the rear doors mounted with hidden hinges a local car club friend of Chuck and Daniel is volunteering to make a removeable Carson top for Daniel's Rod. Looking forward to the custom work as it happens.
Buddy, Daniel only works on the car one day a week. If I am not off (I work still) I get pix the next time I can hook up with Daniel. Update, other than the removeable Carson top they will be modifing the rear seat by moving it forward - easy for a four door and then installing a third row of seats ! I think it will truly be the family buggy. Daniel will go broke buying seat belts !
No the project has been slowed down. Daniel's work is requiring him to work down the hill in the San Bernardino area. It just takes a lot out of Daniel. They still try to work every other Fri - sometimes Thu. Will search my photos for this project. Dave
Here is an update on Daniel's build. This is from May 2011. Car has had the roof removed. The windshield frame is being modified to look like an open touring or convertible sedan. Doors have been modified. The driver's side is a short door and the passenger side is from a tudor sedan.
Guys, I am flying blind here. I post the pix but can't see them. Can someone let me know if they are visible to several guys I would appreciate. Will try to get some newer pix soon. One update is the Ford drivetrain is out. Daniel was given a '66 Chevy witha 350/350. Helps with Daniel's budget. Dave
Guys, Here is some pix from mid-June 2011. Picture should show left side one door only. Driver's side is original '46 Front door for a Fordor. Daniel is working on rolling the edges of the body so it will look like a true roadster or touring. No side windows for this ride. Rear door has been welded in. Other side is front door from Tudor sedan. Rear opening is filled with a rear door sectioned to fit opening. Dave
Guys, Update for Sep 2011. Daniel was in the process of chopping the windshield. Made it look more like a roadster by using some exhaust tubing to complete the roadster look of the w/s frame. Dave
Cool idea about the doors.Did'nt Pacers have the passenger door longer than the drivers? Thats really cool. Can't wait for more!
Sambo, Thanks for the positive comments. Looking forward to getting some update photos of the build on this '46. Will check with Chuck to see when I can get some newer pix. Dave
Here ya go fellows, This is some pix of Daniel's Custom Convertible Sedan. The right side has been body worked (several bullet holes filled). Daniel has been doing some neat work on the right side. Dave
Daniel has started to work on the left side. It was not as bad as the right side. Deck lid is spot welded to the trunk jam. You will be able to reach the trunk from the third row of seats. Probably set up for the little guys not the big fellows. Dave
Guys, Looking forward to having more time to update projects I am posting on. Just retired from the USAF and hope to post more updates as they happen. Dave
