My 1928 Model A will turn over but won't start what should I do?

  2. Do you have spark? HRP

  3. Explain to me how or why you have a Model A and don't know any basic diagnostic procedures?? I recommend selling the A to me and picking up a vintage VW, that should get you caught up on basic mechanics 101 fairly quickly.

  4. do you have the gas turned on?

My car wouldn't start. I turned the key and it did.

Make sure when you turn the key the "key section" pops out....I have had a few that were temperamental....

My Model A turned over too...and now won't start.....It usually happens after I've had too much tequila. It's a lot easier to change tires when they are turned over.

Seriously, place a screw driver near the spark plugs with the tip grounded to the head and see if you get spark when the engine "turns over" If you get spark at each, that's a good start. Make sure the points are opening and closing.

Next step is fuel. Disconnect the line at the carburetor-it should pour out. If not, back track to the tank-it's not very far away! Unscrew the small bolt on the bottom of the carburetor-gas should pour out of there as well.

This should get you pointed in the right direction.

Still would need a common knowledge base to work from.

You need to check for spark across the spark plug gap. Remove them all and check for spark while cranking the engine and holding the ground tip to the engine block. Report back with the results and we'll go to step 2.

By the way, are we talking about a stock Model A engine?

I got in my car turned the key and nothing , then noticed the motor in the corner of the garage .. Hmm can that be the issue ???

A VW is more complex than a T .. other than the ignition system . still trying to figure out the vibrator system .. I know wiki .

All the worlds problems are electrical, it just takes time to find what is broken. Bob

  15. I was just throwing shit into the fan lol I was mostly shocked by the lack of onformation are we supposed to assume that it's totally stock with a banger motor? Is it an AV8?? He'll maybe his A has a Hemi. And since he hasn't checked back in ill assume that he pulled the fuel line off the carb and burnt his house down.

My Dad told me a tale of a guy who needed a transmission for his car in the late 50's. He test drove one from a lot, pulled the transmission out and pushed it back in telling the salesman..."that car ain't no good....transmissions out!" On this no start topic...Do you know where your engine is at ???

    RPM see what you started!

its ok, I couldnt get my 56 Chevy engine started in my first rod Model A [in 1956]

cuz I wired my plugs to the only wiring I knew of. A flathead Ford V8.

Hey! there wasnt any small blocks in my Dads Motor manual!
