I feel uncomfortable talking about others' cars, they always have more info than I, but from what I've read Mitch Rasansky's car is a stunning recreation of the original using period correct engine, trans and rear end.

My car is a 'tribute car' with no attempt made at exact replicating of the original car which is said to have disappeared in the 1930s.

Wanted/ needed, 2 - Halibrand , single spot brake mounts for Int. spindles. Shop job.
Also 2--RH & LH - 2" - Axle nuts for a 31 splined steel Halibrand midget axle. Winter's alum. nuts will not work. My midget, will trade $ for parts.

Butch, I have been looking for a spare set for mine for a while. They are 1 7/8" thread. Seems like there should be a ton of them out there.

Thank you for your interesting info on your tribute car, which most certainly IS "an affordable, reliable and fun way" to go vintage racing and have a ball. I have enjoyed your many posts, seeing all the meets you have enjoyed, with it.

The Rasansky cars photos were also great, but it raised even more questions for me, with the #2... As I understand it, Both the # 2 and the #15 are his cars. They look very much alike. so I was wondering which one came first, which one "might" have been copied from the first, or built as an unrelated, similar project, and if indeed they ARE the same model Miller? I know they could not BOTH have come from the same source. Hard to find info on these..Beautiful cars, either way.

I remember when he told us he had found an original Miller engine. We were a bit envious. Dad had been looking for some years, but it seemed like Chuck was frineds with lots of guys who knew the best sources, and he always snapped up most of the Miller engines & parts available back then.

BTW: Sorry to hear of your struggles selling the elto and Granite State - the market seems a bit unpredictable of late and a lot of those currently with money to purchase are from a generation not attuned to what we would consider of historic value.
Have you considered donation to a museum and the ensuing tax reductions?

 

I have probably 6 or 8 sets for International spindles and single spot halibrand brake caliper.

 

I am not as familiar with the Doc Bowles car as I am with the car he partnered with Gus Gutzweiler in the very late 50's and 60's, the G&J Engineering car but I do see that there are a lot more pictures of the Doc Bowles car by far, as a matter of fact just looking through this thread I haven't seen any of the G&J car, I have several pictures where it was remade over several times as the:
Yellow #19,
then as a #63 White and red with some blue striping for 67/68
and finally I have a picture of it as
cream and blue #89 for seasons 1968/69.
My Dad said that Gus kept trying to change it to break a bad luck streak.

 

Love to se the pictures I have the car. Last pic is now.

 

No doubt! Weld driving with his wheels. It would be restored to that spec a few years before Greg passed.

A young Richard Hoffman (probably going by "Dick" when the image was taken). Recognize the driver? How about the number 56 in the foreground ?

The Hoffman patriarch, Gus "Old Timer" Hoffman will be inducted into the USAC Hall of Fame at IRP on May 17 (Silver Crown Race)

Sad news..... Late 40s midget and Indy car driver, Billy Coy has died at age 93. Billy made a name for himself, driving midgets at Carrell Speedway in Gardena Cal. driving for the Deacon Jones team.
Billy competed in the Indy 500 one time(I believe 1949), finishing third, driving for Red Stanley, crossing the finish line with his car on fire.


RIP, Mickey Rooney... I'll be watching "The Big Wheel" today, in your honor..

I have a couple photos of the 56 car. Chuck Booth is driving in both pictures. The car is listed in my USAC book as the C & J Enginnering Spl. owned by Clyde Gutzweiler. According to my book this photo is 1969.

 

I recently learned that there are no more M&H midget tires available. I would suggest those who need tires now or in the near future to call Coker tire and let them know your needs. The more requests they get, will expedite more tires to be made by M&H. Thanks

 

Thanks, that answers two questions. I thought the #56 car was Gutzweiler's,but those that knew him better than I said his car's were always #19.
