After 4" it's all about how much you want to strain your neck to see the signal light at an intersection. They look cool with more chop, but they block a lot of your vision.

OK, so here is my car at 3.5" I think it's the perfect amount of chop. It's heavy enough that nobody has to ask whether it's chopped or not and the quarter window still looks good.

4'' chop with no channel, 32 rails. I'm 6' and still have to hunt for the light through the traffic light finder if I role to close. I can see it fine on the Harley. Still like the HOT ROD! This car still has a pretty roomy trunk to.

Great idea for a post, mines 4 " and I'm 5'10", and its definitely a bend over if I'm to close to the traffic light.

Bringing this great thread back to the top for the guy that started a new thread to decide how much to chop his coupe. I don't know how to post a link anymore.

I hate to pee on this party... but... if you live in Maine, dont chop it much more than 4 1/2.. this leaves a windsheild height of 7 1/4 inches. Here you have to have 7 inches of glass height...

...just sayin' ....now pardon me whilst I shake...

An inch law for windshields??? (on the street, that is?)
The 'inch law' was an SCTA rule, (to restrict 'coupe & sedan streamlining') on the dry lakes. Coincidentally, it was 7"... Probably an ex-SCTA member on the state board...

The car has torsion bars front and rear. Rear bars run across rear frame, the front run in the frame rails with arms riding in the notch of the wishbones.

Pennsylvania has the same law on rods.
    7" minimum vertical height.

Anything more than 5" and the rear quarter window on coupes start to look funky.

I was told by the seller that this was a 3.5 chop...after seeing all these great pics I think I have a 4-4.5 chop...is there a window measurement to tell the amount that was removed $_57 (1).JPG $_57 (4).JPG

  21. Hot roders are usually pretty smart, however our forefathers decided that defining what is left by stating what has been thrown away was a great idea.

Sometimes all you need to know is that it looks good. Sometimes you need to know how much was taken away. Most of the time you'd like to know what's left, but its never ever stated that way. Not once have I seen the perfect proportions stated as such.
So if you need to know how much its been chopped, you first need to know what the stock measurements are supposed to be, then measure yours, then do math problems.

  22. Hey Mark,
Let me know where ya want the measurements taken and I'll measure my 30 and let ya know what I have (still unchopped)

Thanks...but I think my white coupe is not chopped..I can always measure it, although it looked like it had a slight chop to it when I bought it...just for shits n giggles go ahead and post your side drivers window since your sure your s isnt chopped..then I can measure both the coupes :)

Pat...my white coupe has no chop, same measure ments as yours, my grey one is 4.5" - 5" depending on where I measure. Thanks again for posting those measurements. There was another guy earlier in the thread asking for the same measurements, but without a response, so maybe he will see this post and get his answers:)

  29. I actually like the 3" best but the 4" looks good as well. it would probably come down to my mood when I was wielding the hot wrench ( yes I still like to do it with a torch).

  30. I think if and when I chop mine I'll go with 3 1/2"
