Does any one know if this company is still in business? I bought some of these slicks in early 60 and dont recall where they were located. These slicks were real gum rubber and seem to hook good in one of our race cars and we later went to the M&H tire because they were local.

KiwiKev has some Inglewood slicks on his Willys and they are by far some of the nicest looking slicks I have seen. You may want to check with him.

OK I assume he is a HAMBER. The Inglewoods I had were white walls and I believe they were 8 inches wide or close to it.

Yeah he is a Hamb member. His are not white walls but I believe them to be about 8" wide. I think they may be the real deal Old Originals. PM him and ask him.

Also the original Orbitron done by Roth used WW Inglewood slicks. Whoever did the restoration of that car may be able to help you. I am interested too!

Inglewood and others in the early days were recappers rather than tire manufacturers. They built their slicks on selected tire carcasses, usually from larger cars which explains the commonly seen WWW slicks.
I don't think ANY drag slick tire manufacturer, if there ever were any, would have offered a newly manufactured WWW slick, rather than a recap, as part of a racing tire inventory.

Yes they were a recap tire but at the time was the only ones made that fit my car. I never had any trouble with them and actually sold the car with them on it and they still were hooking good.

My Roadster just did a 1000 mile haul from Austin, TX on original 60's Recaps. I would buy a recap anyday now that I see how well they do and look.

Jeffery I say as long as a recap was built properly we never had any problem with them. We use to use Kanapolis(sp?) circle race tires in the 60's and I don't recall ever throwing off a recap. They used the Goodyear race tire carcass for the recap at the time.y do and look.[/QUOTE]

According to the old paperwork I have from the company the address was:

    Inglewood Tire Service
    1105 E. Redondo Blvd.
    Inglewood 3. California

    Phone numbers: OR-82054 & OR-70777

I have a brand new computer/scanner, if/when I figure out how to use it I'll post some scans of the paperwork.

    Ray,

The company that you stated "Kanapolis" has just recently started reproducing the cheater slicks and dirt track tires from their original molds. They go by the name Towel City Retreads.

Let me know if you need their info. I could find it for you. They are very local to us.

Inglewood must have been in business well into the 70's. How could we forget Pos A Traction Torque Twister tires on our Street Machines in the 70's!?
Anyone know if Inglewood went belly up or were bought out by another company?

....thought I'd post these pics here for future reference. This is a pair of gennie 1960's Inglewood "Cheaters" . As Pasadena pointed out, Inglewood recapped old carcasses, in this case a pair of 8.20 -15 Generals with a 3" whitewall. In my opinion, Inglewood had the coolest looking pie-crust. I actually ran these on my street coupe for a few years but decided to pull them off before I used them up.

..as far as companys that newly manufactured whitewall slicks back in the day, the old M&H in Watertown Mass comes to mind...looks like you couldn't get them in a 1050/16 though

If I remember my history correctly, Garlits was the first big name to run the M&H tires and often credited them for his success...when he started to beat the West Coast boys, the word was out and the M&H legend was born......
