Researching Muroc history and came upon it. There's obviously a story here. Love those bald front tires trudging thru less than comfy terrain.
Way back in the day a GF's mother wasn't at all impressed when I told her I didn't change tires until the cords showed in 3 places after she had pointed out a cord showing on a front tire of my car. No humor, she would have never made it as a HAMBer's MIL. Auburn Speedster has remained one of my favorite designs since I saw one well over 50 years ago. Good to see pics of one being used for what it was built for, not sitting in a museum. Thanks for posting. Ed
Wish there were still places to drive like that! Wish I could do it now! BTW, cars belong on the road. Art belongs in a museum.
You can still go out to El Mirage and the suronding area and "let 'er out" when it's dry and the SCTA is not running. You see it on many TV auto adds. Kind of a long drive from NY. Maybe you could fly to LAX and rent a car just to say you did it. Wouldn't be as cool as the Auburn. But I don't know what they have to let.
