Your frame looks really nice too. Cleaned up and nice contrast between the black and engine color. I can't quite tell if the engine is red or orange though. Which is it? When do you plan on putting the body back on the frame?

    Thank you
    It's orange.
When I bought my car it had a 350chev in it, which has only done 2000 miles, so for a while I'm going to keep it.
I thought that painting the engine chevy orange would make it stand out in the black engine bay.

  10. Sorry for not responding sooner...tha's a nice little project you have there...the rebadges are so different from the US Mercury. I wonder how many other small differences there were?

  11. Well, here is the latest batch of photo of the Mercury, Rudy at Fullerton Fabrications and been hard at work on the car.

The rockers are now solid and the inner fram to hold the car together has now been cut out...and all the doors still line up.

It's been a long journey but we are making small steps to getting this car make on the road.

    Cheers

    Peter

  12. Hey no problem Redranch.......Not sure apart from the grill, badging & monarch stamping in the side spears, haven't done my homework. I wasn't really looking for another project as I just started a Fleetline last year and my garage is rammed solid but saw it advertised at a great price 10 miles from me and the chance to own a 50 Mercury got the better of me. The guys back in the UK are pushing for me to two door it but I fancy the challenge of a four door chop.
Yours looks like its in great hands and nice to see it making steady progress.

Good to see the Merc coming along. Soon it will be completely rust free!

  15. I pulled my 1950 Mercury out of storage yesterday, where it's been gathering dust for the past few years as I've been distracted by other projects (my 32 and 33 3 window Coupes). But I think I should crack on with this restoration in 2018...all the hard work has been done in getting the car straight on solid again, yes there are still a few cosmetic area to be repaired...it what do you think? 16. After all of the work/time put into this car, it really needs to be completed.
The work done is looking great.
    Good luck

  18. Yesterday the Mercury was pulled out of storage, packed up with all the spare parts I’ve collected over the years and then towed away for Merc John in Riverside CA, to make a start on getting it back on the road again.
I’ll keep you all posted on the progress, but hopefully it won’t belong before it’s back...even in primer will do me for a while.

  19. Okay, this is the final post on the 50 Mercury project. The can now has a 350 Chevy engine, a Camaro from clip and a new rear axle. It runs and drive under it's own steam for the first time since I bought the car with a 351 Mustang engine in there.

Mercury prices have dropped in recent year, for whatever reason they aren't the same sort of value as they used to be. So I can pick up a running driving 50 Mercury for less money than it would cost me to finish my car. So I took the decision to sell the car.

It is now sold and hopefully the new owner will get it to the point where he can enjoy the car rather than let it sit gather dust. I owned it for about 11 years and know I should have done more with it...but that is life.
