Most older folks from the Rochester, NY area, remember the name of John C. (Jess) Haelen, as one of the earliest owners of a machine shop geared to high performance and racing engines. The Rochester, NY newspaper, the Democrat&Chronicle reported today that Jess passed away this past Thursday, March 30th. He was 88.

    RIP Jess...........

I wasn't around in his 'hayday', but certainly heard a lot about him and what he did from my dad and his friends.
He definitely left his mark on many.

    R.I.P Mr.Haelen.

Actually, I wasn't around in his "heydays", when he was located on Halstead St. either, but several of my older friends had a lot of work done by him back then. I did, however, get a couple of SBC blocks and pairs of heads done by him a couple of years before he retired, and by that time he was on Penfield Road.
