Posting pictures would help to ID which series Ford engine.

My crystal ball is broken at the moment, so unless you can describe it much better, a picture or two would really help ID the engine.

Check the numbers out. Pop a valve cover off. Check around the starter bell housing area for number then just punch them in

Quick Ford OHV V8 family identification:

2 valve cover bolts: Y block
    5 valve cover bolts: FE
    6 valve cover bolts: small block (260, 289, 302, 351W etc)
    7 valve cover bolts: 429/460
8 valve cover bolts: Cleveland series

Within these families are various displacements and deck heights. Need pix or more info.

Missing: Lincoln MEL series and Y blocks cuz I don't remember.

An MEL engine has 6 valve cover bolts and a Lincoln Y will have 2 just like its smaller Ford brother. But with a truck it is highly unlikely it has either of those motors unless it is a large Medium or Heavy Duty series truck, or someone did a swap at some point in its life.

From what 58Custom & Frozenmerc posted you should be able to get a basic idea of what you have.

Call the previous owner and ask him/her what engine you have since you can't post a pic. 58 Custom has provided the best info to make an educated guess.

Ford only made 2 engines. They made a 302 and a Y-block. So it's one of the two.
