Thanks, I just noticed a picture of your -55 and when looking at it, it just makes me wondering, why people don´t build more trifives that way. Your wheel/tire choice and everything is so cool!

  3. That is a cool lookin 55. Are you running air ride or is it static dropped?

It's on air, the roads in Seattle are just terrible, I'll look and see if I can come up with some better pictures. It's getting there, atleast it photographs well.

It's not really a HAMB style build. The idea was more a "modern" '56 but built to look like it "could have come that way" save for an engine upgrade.

One thing HAMB about it though, the only thing we (my father and I--it's his car) didn't do was the upholstery. Everything else, body, paint, mechanical, wiring, etc, was done by us, and features many junk yard parts adapted to fit.

Another very HAMB-like feature; it gets driven a lot. On its maiden voyage (after a few shakedown runs) we drove it from Maryland to Ohio to the Classic Chevy Show that year (2003 if I remember correctly) where it took best 1956 Modified, scored 996 points, and earned a Platinum Certificate. Since then, my wife and I have moved to Tennessee, and Mom and Dad have moved to North Carolina. The '56 is still with them, and is driven regularly on both local and long distant trips. It has been driven to Florida, Tennessee, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and a few other states to boot. With fuel injection and overdrive, it pulls a good 23 mpg on the highway with the top up and the A/C on.

Dad is now 70, and shows no signs of slowing down. He is currently building a '59 Impala 2 door hard top.

My 56 Bel Air... we had a extremely mild winter ( no snow at all, which is not usual for southern Germany ) so I cleaned the cars last weekend and took the 56 for a spin.

Thank you. I rebuilt the entire car, except for paint. Last July I sold it to the son of the guy who originally restored it like 25 years ago. I used the money to buy the 31A in my avatar. I loved the 56, but I really love the 31. The 56 is back where it belongs. I was it's care taker for 10 years.

Thanks Butch. Judging by your avatar you may be just a little bias. Between you and me, I think the 56 is the best year of the Tri-5s.

Been beating on this for a year now. It had been hit twice, pretty sure it had rolled and goats had danced on the roof. One step at a time.

Put some wide whites and some chrome wheels on for the correct look. This wagon has a 3M vehicle wrap for color. We kept the patina and covered/protected it with a color vinyl wrap to keep it cheap and reversible.
