Hot Rods The Coupes and Sedans of Land Speed Racing

Through my searches here on the HAMB I haven't seen any threads dedicated to the coupes and sedans of land speed racing. I am looking for pictures of both new and old of cars that have competed on the dry lakes and salt flats. For those that don't know coupes and sedans were looked at as being the red headed step children of LSR and weren't allowed to compete until the formation of the Russetta Timing Association in 1948 and followed by the SCTA allowing them in 1951(correct me if I'm wrong). Let's try to keep it limited to pre 1935 cars, of any make.

 

This is a picture of our 1929 model a sedan with 1935 roof and windshield, not raced on salt but is raced at Loring maine event. Top speed one sixty five so far. Also Mack tow truck we built to match and tow car. Can post more pictures if interested. Thanks Kirk

 

More pictures please! I would like to see some pictures of the front end. What class and motor are you running?

 

We run in lakester class, last motor was a 406 sbc. Currently switching over to a 4.8 ls motor. I have build thread on here for the car, this is the best picture of front of car I have on this iPad. Thanks

 

Good start, maybe the pre '35 can be pushed a bit. Would like to see some 1938 fords if anybody has any pictures of any on the lakes?

 

The Muffler Tom & Demming Coupe...Yesterday and today (in as found condition.) Currently being readied to run Bonneville again in the earlier looking style!

It has been a pipe dream of mine(one of the many) for some time to build a '26/'27 Model T coupe to take land speed racing. You definitely don't see too many.

The Hutchison & Hope '34. The same Ron Hope that now drives the Rat trap fuel altered.

 

Lou Bingam's '32. Drove it to the salt, striped it, ran it, put it back together and drove it home.

 

The nastiest fuel coupe that ever ran on the salt. Neil Thompson's Stude set the A/Comp coupe record at over 271mph with a best one way of right at 290.

 

The Huth Muffler coupe. That is the same Huth that invented the tube bender used in every modern day muffler shop.

 

Jerry Kugel's first race car. 165 record with a 265" SBC in 1962.

One of my favorite articles of all time is the trek Lou Bingham made out to the salt with Spence Murray in '53 that appeared in Rod & Custom. He actually towed the '32 with a flathead powered '27 Model T roadster pickup. Thanks for sharing Dean! Keep them coming!!!
